About Me

My name is Myrah Marquis.

I currently teach Kindergarten in Toronto, Ontario. In my classroom, I strive to create an environment where learning is an adventure, and exploration is encouraged. Each day you might find us deeply engaged in play, mixing paints to create masterpieces, taking our learning outdoors or baking an apple pie. I have been delighted to hear from principals that they love visiting my classroom because they never know where our class will be or what we will be doing. I believe in a holistic approach to education and lead learning creatively and innovatively by providing cross-curricular and experiential learning.

A cornerstone of my teaching philosophy is empowering students to take the lead in their learning. I believe children’s voices and ideas should be honoured in a early childhood environment. I implement learning opportunities for students beyond classroom walls through outdoor exploration and engaging with our local community.

My pedagogy is a similar to a nest woven from research, personal experiences, and invaluable advice from mentors and colleagues within my teaching community. Throughout my Master's program, I have embraced a more holistic, circular approach to teaching and learning. Early years education holds a special place in my heart because of its emphasis on freedom, play, and inquiry-based learning.

My Favourite Early Years Memories

Early years experiences can last a lifetime; I am dedicated to providing an inspiring learning environment. The reason I became an educator was because I have so many dear memories of my primary years. During my time as an elementary student, I learned to hold myself to high learning standards, be a positive role model, and understand the importance of improving our community and environment. I continue to keep these principles at the heart of my teaching philosophy.
